Searching for Inspiration Despite Chaos

I was so excited about getting in my craft room and getting to create yesterday. I've been forcing myself to complete some other busy-work for the past week or so to catch up with the business side of things and haven't let myself really make any jewelry. As such, I was chomping at the bit to get my hands on some beads. Yet, when I did get in there, I froze.

I think I've become overwhelmed by all the STUFF!
Don't get me wrong. I love all my supplies and tools, and I never thought too much stuff would be a problem. However, there's just SO MUCH of it that I don't know where to start most days. Lately, I've been turning to my sketchbook for ideas, but those tend to be general and not supply-specific. This means that I often have to run out to fetch more supplies for an idea I had. I've just about run out of places to store all of this. Between all the
Art beads, jars of buttons, trays of beads, tackle boxes of beads
New beads, found objects, button cards, thrifted jewelry
STUFF I'm just a tad lost.
Do you ever feel this way? How do you get your mind to center in on one project and away from all the stuff? Is it possible to find inspiration despite the chaos?

At least I've already got a back log of items made and ready for the shop. Here's the newest. It's already been reserved.

Anyway, I'd love to hear any tips you have on my first world problem.
How do I let the beads speak to me when they're ALL clamoring for attention?

  1. I think this is one of the reasons I haven't been at my bead table in a while. Feeling a bit overwhelmed and am lacking inspiration. :)

  2. Ha! Totally feel that way! I have been using a corner of one room to store all my beading materials. And so each time I have to pull out a couple of items, but find I keep having to go back to dig through because I need another item. So I did a massive overhaul to a room ... and moved in a table. I have a completely clean start! Anyone want to put money down on how long it takes for me to spread out?! :)

  3. I was feeling that way all winter, I am hoping that some of my inspiration is coming back but it has been very slow. I haven't put away half of the stuff that I have bought it is in little envelopes all over the place and I feel like I need to get organized before I can start working, but there never seems to be enough time in my day! ugh!

  4. Some days are just like that. Perhaps limit yourself to a colour palette or certain beads... cover up the rest. Write down an idea the day before and stick to it? Kind of how you do your menu days? Grab a photo for inspiration.. and stick to it... stuff like that??

  5. Antiquity- When I started this crazy, creative ride I was just using a hutch to store ALL my crafting supplies. Now I have a whole room to spread out in and I cannot get control of it. It's become a beast of its own. Here's hoping you can keep that beast from invading yours as well!!

  6. Unfortunately, I feel the same way you do! I have a whole room, and even though I have other artsy stuff in there, I still have trouble controlling the clutter. I really find it a problem because it saps my creativity. I don't know what to do about it because to create you do need supplies.
