Peek at My Week (Nov 3-9)

It's been a full-spectrum of emotions kind of week. Let's start with last Sunday. I mentioned the extra hour in the day thanks to Daylight Savings. It made the day feel full of possibilities.
I had taken a little of my birthday money and treated myself to these Stabilo Woody watercolor pencils that I've been wanting for a few years now. They come organized in a box with their own little compartments, but I found it hard to get them out, so I threw them into this old tin and just love how they look in it.

Pat needed to take care of a few things up at the recording studio, so I went with him and worked on last week's post while he tidied up.

From there, we jumped right into "Puppy Fun Day" and took Zoe with us as we went to explore a couple of new locations for disc-golf baskets.
The first 5-basket course was in a little park that has this creek running alongside it. Before we headed to the next course, I had to snap a picture. There were at least five families with photographers up there getting their family pictures done. It was a madhouse, but the beauty of the location is undeniable. The next course was a little less picturesque but also less crowded. It was nice to get out in the cooler weather.

I realized a few hours later that the time change also meant that it got dark an hour earlier. Yeah, I'm not a fan. But, that also sent us to bed a little earlier and rising a little earlier. So, I decided to take advantage of that and spend some time outside with morning reflections while swinging on my new porch swing.
I've done a pretty good job of getting out there each morning to take in the new day, organize my head, and enjoy the outdoors. I hope I can keep it up. It definitely feels like it's helped me focus on what I want to accomplish each day.

I knocked out my errands and chores on Monday and tested out a new recipe that evening.
This One Pot Zoodles and Meatballs recipe was really simple. And, we FINALLY tried Zoodles (zucchini strips that mimic/replace noodles). I learned that this recipe made far too much for the three of us so I would probably half it and just use ground beef instead of the meatballs next time. But, there will likely be a "next time". So, there's that.

I was up and out on the porch on Tuesday morning.
I do love that view!

I finished up some projects and ran a few errands before I realized that I looked like this.
The outfit I thought looked so cute also looked like a Minion. If I hadn't mentioned it, I'm sure no one would have thought of it, but it cracked me up to no end, and I didn't bother changing clothes.

My grandmother had an appointment on Wednesday morning, but that didn't stop me from spending a few minutes outside in reflection and doodling first.
Usually, Wednesdays at my mom's house get away from me. But, I was determined (somewhat) to accomplish something. So, I worked on getting a few videos edited for YouTube.

On Thursday, I made a point of getting those videos uploaded to YouTube so I made a point of heading before lunch to get that done while I sipped a smoothie at a local coffee shop.

Back at home, I started the intimidating task of cleaning and organizing the craft room.
My pile of tins to be broken down was out of control and made it difficult to get to other supplies. So, I took some time to stack them within each other with the lids off. Then, I stacked the lids within each other. There was something so satisfying about this stack of round lids.

Unfortunately, that was all the photos I took for the week. As I worked on the craft room more on Friday, we heard emergency vehicles heading down our dead-end street. While we still don't know what's happened, we're fairly positive that both of our elderly neighbors are no longer with us. I hope to get more information as the week progresses.

I had lunch downtown Fairhope with a couple of girlfriends on Saturday before watching the Alabama vs. LSU football game. It was an emotional roller coaster of a game that Alabama ended up losing. I have to remind myself that we can't win them all.

Today, I'm working on processing the events of the last couple of days and looking forward to a class I'm taking this afternoon. I'm sure I'll have more to say about it next week.

Despite the highs and lows of the week, I did find some inspiration to share:

  • I'm kinda in love with these quirky animal Assemblages by Debra Broz
  • This quote by Kurt Vonnegut shared by Austin Kleon touched me.
  • For a really simple jewelry project, check out this Chalk Painted Statement Necklace
  • I've possibly shared this Rectangle Hoop Earring Tutorial before as it seems really familiar, but it's worth a look anyway.
  • I have to admit that I LOVE wrapping paper. There's something so pleasurable about ripping into a package someone's given you as well as watching someone tear into what you've given them. And don't get me started on the endless pattern choices! But, that kind of wastefulness is wreaking havoc on our environment, and we need to start considering alternatives to paper wrapping and bags. Enter the Reusable Fabric Gift Bag! The tutorial I've linked up is only one option. But, think about the implications and possibilities. There are tons of fabric patterns too. And, you're not only gifting someone with the actual gift but the bag as well! Think about it.
  • Speaking of Christmas, it's time to get those Holiday crafts underway. I love every one of these Hand Embroidery Patterns! The problem is deciding which one to make.
  • This layered pendant tutorial on the Ice Resin blog combines the use of a few materials I would have never considered before.
  • There's science to back up the need to make art. It's scientifically proven!!
  • ArtBeads has a tutorial on a Creamsicle Necklace that uses a variety of bead caps to add texture and interest.

Wow, that's more than I thought I found this week! I hope this past week has treated you well and that the week ahead is full of magical moments.

Days of My Craft Desk

I'm always a little amazed at the sheer variety of projects that come across my desk. And, that can mean the actual physical desk in my craft room or any space in which I work. I thought you might like to see a snippet of an actual span of several days. Mind you, this doesn't include the mounds of work I do on my computer (writing, photo editing, blog-reading, video-watching, social media, and video-editing to name a few.)
I try to start each week with a bit of forethought and planning in my Bullet Journal. I do say TRY, because not everything, including the planning, works out as planned. Above was my Sunday morning planning as I worked on your Peek at My Week.

Since a thunderstorm canceled our afternoon plans, I worked on a few projects. When I sat back, I realized how much of an unintentional Fall-theme I had going on!

I picked up a few new supplies (mostly findings) on Monday afternoon then sorted them into where they needed to be. That was really all the action the craft desk saw that day as I was busy out of the house almost all day.

Tuesday, I worked to make ear wires for a few new tin pieces (made the previous week) along with the chain for the wrapped key.

I really needed to take product pictures this week. Usually, I take advantage of the natural light outside, but it's just too hot in Alabama right now. So, I set up in the sunroom instead. Zoe was a bit skeptical about the situation.

While creating and finishing the chain for the wrapped key, I realized that my box of chains was severely overloaded. The main culprit was a large bag of thrifted chains that hadn't been sorted. So, those were dumped onto a bead mat and organized by metal (or re-donated).

Before heading out for the day on Thursday, I had little time to create. So, I took a few minutes to work in my Soul Food art journal.

Since I was at my mom's most of the rest of Thursday, I made sure to have Bead Box 6 with me. I was able to work on one of the projects while I had dinner in the oven. And, I still consider this my craft desk, even it was really just a clipboard at my mom's house.

This is the condition of my desk at this exact moment. The art journal is still there along with another lingering project that I'm pondering. I'll get to it all once a few more chores are done.

Some weeks, I'm so busy with other tasks that my desk never changes. Other weeks, it changes every hour. What about you? What's come across your desk recently?

Peek at My Week: Feb. 10-16

Don't you just hate it when an entire week slips by and you have no idea what happened to it? That was the case with this week. It feels like the entire week had me preoccupied with other thoughts.  Here's a glimpse into some of it.
Sunday was the day after my Mardi Gras Ball and we were SUPER lazy as we recovered from the late night out. Leeloo's position on the couch accurately represents how we spent most of the day.

That evening was a different story.
We drove over to Pensacola to see James Taylor and His All-Star Band with special guest, Bonnie Raitt. We've had the tickets since October - they were an anniversary/Valentine gift to ourselves. I absolutely loved the show. In fact, I was so excited, I cried almost all the way through James' performance. I'm a big fan.

Monday began with some art journaling before I knocked out several chores.
After lunch, I headed to my local Michael's to complete forms in order to become a classroom instructor! What!? Yes, I'll be teaching jewelry classes (as soon as I develop my ideas some - if you have suggestions, please shoot me a note!) as well as the Kids' craft classes. Fun!

Tuesday...sigh. I was able to knock a few things off my list like taking pictures while the sun was out. But, the rain began just as I headed to the grocery store.
These Valentine steaks tickled me to no end!

After getting a few more things done like taking pictures of my swap beads for Swap-n-hop, labeling them, and packing them up to ship, I realized that there was no memory card in my camera. I was pretty devastated as it was already dark and would be near impossible to recreate some of the photos I had taken. My plan for the evening was to cook dinner then edit photos. Instead, I had Pat pick us up some Indian food while I pulled out the lightbox and did the best I could.
Thank goodness I still keep it handy! While the pictures aren't everything that they would have been in natural light, I got some okay photos out of it.

On Wednesday, I was at my mom's with my grandmother. I was able to get some work done but spent far too long playing games on my phone. Drat.

Thursday was a blur. It was Valentine's Day so I made Pat a few little things. After lunch, I ran out to handle my errands. Right after I left the house, Pat discovered Leeloo having a seizure. That had me hauling butt back to the house. There wasn't much we could do but make a vet appointment and watch her, so I headed back out to finish my tasks. When I go home, I felt so frazzled over everything that I decided I needed a little time outside.
Zoe and I took a walk around the trails on the property. It was just what I needed to get my blood flowing and my mind back where it needed to be. And, I love finding little treasures. How about that lacy skeleton leaf? Pretty cool.

On Friday, I took Leeloo to the vet. And, they really had no answers about her seizure but gave me medicine in case it was caused by some kind of virus or something. Giving a cat her pills is NO FUN. But, I hope we're done with the seizures. After the vet visit, I headed back up to Michaels for more orientation stuff. Back at home, Zoe and I went for another walk. I think it was good for both of us.

Saturday was my first day at work!
Though there weren't any kids in my classes, I was able to get a feel of the classroom and figure out where everything was in preparation for next weekend.

Once I was done with work, we went to a party for a friend's daughter before coming home and binging The Great British Baking Show. (I love it!) And, that was the week for me. I think I was having a hard time wrapping my head around starting a job, and I let that get the bulk of my focus for the week. I'm glad I've gotten a feel for it (somewhat) and can perhaps focus on some of the other tasks I want to get done - like making jewelry maybe.

Here's some inspiration for your week.
And, that's all I have. Like I said, I've been distracted this week. Here's hoping we both have a better week ahead! Wishing you a good one.

BTW: Beads of Motivation

Find my BEAD SOUP REVEAL <---------there

Today's edition of Bead Table Wednesday is less "what's currently on my bead table" and more "what I would RATHER was on my bead table."

I'm trying to catch up on some more of the business-y tasks that I've let fall by the wayside and am using the temptation of playing with my beads to kick my butt into gear.

It helps that I'm staring at these! I put one of my printer's drawers to use by filling it with some of my homeless beads (you know. . .those beads that just haven't found the right place in your stash yet.)
Just looking at that beautiful array of beads definitely gets my blood pumping to get some work done.

In addition, I dreamed a few more designs the other day (those usually turn out to be the best ones. . .usually.) This is KINDA part of one of the dreamt designs.

While I had my ICE Resin out, I decided to go ahead and add some to the donuts I was working on a little while back.

You may be able to see in both of those photos that I still need some work on my resin skillz!

I'll get to do that (since I need to coat the other side of the washers) just as soon as I finish up these other tasks. Sigh.

Sooooo, now I want to see what fun is on YOUR bead table. Join up with the Bead Table Wednesday Flicker Group!
Bead Table Wednesday

Part of those business-related tasks include getting some items ready for listing in the shop. I HAVE gotten a little of that done, so today I was able to add a brand new bracelet!!
Autumn Bloom Bracelet
I'm itching to dive into those beads, so it's back to work for me!
Oh! And don't forget about my giveaway!

Some Good, Some So-So, Still Here (ThTh)

I'm still here just been uninspired and uninspiring.
I've had a coupla really good days and a few days that have been just frustrating.
Saturday, was the greatest.
LOML and I went kayaking and swimming in the river. It was so refreshing. After cleaning ourselves up, we had a filling dinner and then some beers with a friend. I went to bed happy and with a bit of a contented high.

Last night, I got to play in the craft room for a bit. It was good, I needed it.

This week has been, just, well, frustrating. I can't really get into it. But, after my craft room time last night and looking forward to the weekend, I've got a better outlook. Plus, it's a three day weekend.

Let me go ahead and share some "Thrifty Thursday" and see if I can come up with some better material for tomorrow.
So that's it for now, thanks for sticking with me.

Personal and Printer Illness (ThTh)

Prepare yourself - this will be a long one since I've been absent a few days.
It's been a rough week for me. I've felt crappy. I've been moody. As such, I thought that maybe I was pregnant. Initial tests have produced a negative result. But the alternative has yet to show its face. Instead, I just feel awful and am moody. In other words, I'm probably just sick. Oh well! The attempts to become pregnant right now are not whole-hearted. If I become 'in the family way' within the next five months or so, it produces problems for me at my Mardi Gras Ball. It's just one of those things. I won't be disappointed either way right now. After the ball - I'll be back to daily crying fits. FUN!!

Moving on, I'm having printer issues. We're out of yellow [or banana or whatever that C-word is the printer companies use for it (not cLEMON), WAIT that's the blue one - yellow is just yellow - I apologize] toner at work. So, I decided to print some stuff I needed for work at home. Of course, the printer here hates me too. It will start to print a document, then it stops, yawns, turns in a circle a few times, and proceeds to nap. When it eventually wakes, it spews out whatever was there when it went to sleep (i.e. NOT the full document.) LOML says he can help me when he gets done working today, but he's not even exactly sure why it's acting that way either. I tried getting closer to it (it's wireless), but that didn't help ANY. It's really upsetting, because it's a new printer that LOML JUST got because I wanted a wireless one with a scanner. This SUX!!

Before I share some Thrifty Thursday links, I want to share my thrifting finds from Saturday's yard sale venture.

Now for the "Thrifty Thursday" links you've been waiting for:
  • Check out this repourposed trophy birthday cake topper. I've never thought of re-painting a trophy, but this really seems to work and be just cool/cheesy enough.
  • I'm always saving glass jars. Here's one way to re-use them: turn glass jars into photo frames. It really does make a neat display.
  • Here are two really cool organization/storage ideas that incorporate recycling - LOVE it. From Better homes and Gardens no less. - (1) - use old tins - (2) use paint or soup cans. Cool huh?
  • This yard sale treasure map (awesome!!) is now a part of my weekly online activity. It incorporates yard sale listings from Craigslist with GoogleMaps to map out your yard sale route. I've found a few quirks in it, but overall it's pretty cool.
  • As well, I even found this other garage sale lister today.
So, that's if for now. Tune in tomorrow to hear me complain some more. OR, I might surprise you with something positive. You never know!!

Conflicted (& FGF)

So, today's supposedly "Feel Good Friday" and "Margarita Friday".
I was. . .am. . .was. . .whatever feeling pretty good about today. UNTIL, I got to work.
I guess, I'm feeling good about my home life - not so much about work.

I made a really basic list of items to get done yesterday, and DID them. I also was actually able to wake up this morning (with a good 45 minutes before I had to leave for work) and get some tasks (from the running list in my head) done. GO ME!!
However, when I got to work I was able to confirm that one of the clients I have been working closely with canceled their services. What a bummer!! This has me worried about my position here. I'd rather go ahead and leave to pursue my dream of crafting full time, but there are so many incidentals to consider. Ugh, I've got some heavy thinking to do. I'm so neurotic, it takes me forever to make any kind of leap because I worry 'what if.'

In any case, let's move on to some "Feel Good Friday" links
  • This is fairly old, but here are 50 ways to help the planet. There are quite a few of these that I already do and a few that surprised me.
  • While I was on the cruise, I really could have used this list of how to come up with good conversation topics for the Captain's Dinner. I'm no good with smalltalk and was grasping at straws with my dining companions. There are also links on the page for starting a conversation, joining a conversation, etc.
  • This article really touched my heart. A girl with down syndrome was named homecoming queen. It brings tears to my eyes and helps me realize that there had to be some good people in high school, maybe.
And I'll leave you with this because it's just awesome!!

What Did You Think You Asked Me To Do?

Hi there! I'm currently not in the best of moods as I've been asked to sit at the front desk again for the rest of the day so that the boss' wife and the receptionist can both leave early to pick up their children.
I must be PMSing because the request sounded to me a lot like, "Well, since you've got a uterus that apprently doesn't work, why don't we put you to good use answering phones. That's what you vagina-people like to do isn't it? Answer phones?"

Aggghhh. Now I'm NOT at my desk, NOT at my computer, and NOT doing my job - I figured I might as well vent about the situation on my blog. Yet, I'm still not feeling better. Oh well, guess I'll start reading craft and recipe blogs. We vagina-people like those things too!!

Working at Home

I've been able to work at home some lately, and it's been really nice. I have worked from home in the past and was concerned about how easy it was to get distracted. However, I'm finding that I am less distracted here than I am at the office. I'm not really sure what to make of that other than the possibility that I am consciously trying NOT to get distracted. My baby kitty, Asia, likes having me home. LOML* also works at home and we are able to take lunch together and all. Yet, we try to keep to our separate areas to ensure we get our work done during the rest of the day.

Of course, this is what I'd really like to be doing: napping in the sunshine!!

Bead Box 19(ish) Stocked

Confession -  this isn't really number 19, as it's been over two years since I shared one of my bead boxes and have gone through a...
