Link-a-palooza for a Busy day

I busted out a few more shabby pendants yesterday. This time I kept them 'as is' without adding any kind of image to them.

I've got a pile of more shapes ready to be altered, and I want to play around with some different options for decorating the front of them. However, a good friend and her fiancee are exchanging vows today so I'm heading out to the courthouse in just a few. Eek!

Since I'm short on time, it's the perfect opportunity for a

One last reminder about the Bead Soup Blog Party tomorrow and that's it for me today. I've got a commitment out of the house in the morning, but I'll be hopping the soups as soon as I get home. You can count on that! See ya later gators.

Bead Soup Teaser

With the Third reveal of the Bead Soup Blog Party only a few days away, I figured I ought to give you a little teaser shot of what I made for it.

I didn't want to reveal too much, so I hope I've blurred it just enough to give you a taste of my soup!

Don't forget to come back by on Saturday to see all the goodies un-blurred!

Until then, here's a new, bright bracelet in the shop. No blurriness here.
Solid Strips Bracelet

Oh, and my Bead Soup post should be up by 12am Central time on Saturday. . .you know, just in case you're as anxious to get started hopping as I am!

Bead Table Wednesday: Indecision

Our juice semi-fast is finished and with the having one 'real' meal a day, it really wasn't too bad. Pat reported that he definitely felt better, more energized after drinking the juice; but I wasn't feeling those effects. I just didn't seem to be getting ANYTHING done. That may have been a side effect of me not having to worry with meals as much to keep my schedule in line. Whatever it was, by yesterday afternoon I was anxious to get something, anything made.

After running a few errands, I made a point to flip through my idea/sketchbook and work on something from it. One entry simply read, make more shabby pendants. So, I did. Well. . .I started on them.
This is their current state. I still need to seal them, but I'm not completely SOLD on how they look right now.

See. . .yesterday, I posted this photo of them.
And I can't decide if they were better this way. They look so. . .plain like this, but I just can't seem to settle on what kind of image to put on them: rub-ons, stamps, stickers, stencils, doodles, text, paper, etc. I did attempt to stamp the backs of these with some Distress Ink, but that just seemed to fade into the other colors.

What do y'all think? Plain? Decorated? Other ideas?
I'm not usually so indecisive, so this is killing me.

In the meantime, I re-listed this necklace.
Southern Subtle Fall Necklace
And added these new earrings.
Purple Earrings
I suppose I'll probably just go seal these pendants and make some others later with additional experimental attempts at decorating them. However, I would REALLY like your input: decorated or not?

Monday Morning Meanderings

I've got several topics I want to touch on this morning. As such, I have headers for each of them.

JUICE FAST
This is the green goddess, it's MUCH more tasty than it looks!

Let me start this post by admitting our juice-fast fail. Pat and I jumped into the fast without any preparation. By the end of the day yesterday, I was fantasizing about food. So, we broke down and had a small meal. We're back on the juice this morning and plan to juice for lunch, but then we'll eat some dinner this evening. I think it's less of a shock to our systems while still getting all those fabulous nutrients from the fruits and vegetables.

CRAFTER'S DEVOTIONAL
I did post my Crafter's Devotional post on Saturday, but because of a misunderstanding I took it down. I think everything is sorted out now so I have it back up in case you missed it. There were only three of us from the group that ended up posting on Saturday. I've got the whole list on the post, but you can see the actual list of the three of us on Elisabeth's blog if you are interested.

MENU
Since we're going to attempt to juice today and tomorrow, it was difficult to think about food and make the menu. However, I did make it through the planning and will wait to grocery shop later in the week. Here's the meal plan as it stands now.

Breakfasts: Juice; peanut butter toast w/fruit; cereal/oatmeal w/fruit; yogurt w/granola & fruit; eggs w/bacon, toast, & fruit; freezer breakfast (waffles, pancakes, and/or smoothies)

Lunches: Juice, pita pizzas w/salad, tuna noodles w/fruit, chicken salad and veggie wrap, turkey sandwiches w/fruit, chicken Caesar salad w/sun-dried tomatoes

Dinners:
Pork loin (from freezer) w/mashed potatoes (from freezer) & green beans
Spicy chicken tortillas soup (from freezer)
Easy marinated chicken skewers w/stir fry veggies & brown rice
Crispy panko crusted fish w/sweet potato & broccoli

SHOP NEWS
I put several items on sell in the shop this morning then put the first ever ring in the shop.
Brass Dots Button Ring

That's probably enough meandering for one day. I've really got to finish and photograph my Bead Soup pieces today for the reveal on Saturday. I'm so excited! Of course, I could just be juiced up. . .hahahahaha! I'm a dork, sorry!

Bead Fest Pity Party: Day 3 (Class of One)

As I mentioned on Friday, Heather Powers of HumbleBeads has invited those beaders who are unfortunately not at Bead Fest to have our own pity party at home. I didn't play along yesterday with the Inspiration Adventure, but wanted to ensure that I did today's Class of One.

Pat and I have decided to go on a three-day juice fast that we started this morning. He assures me that the best way to get past that hungry-empty stomach feeling is to just stay busy and keep my attention elsewhere. This project has done just that! Hurray.

I started by picking from my vast array of jewelry books. I chose Bohemian Inspired Jewelry by Lorelei Eurto and Erin Siegel.

The hardest part of the whole process was choosing which of the 50 wonderful tutorials I wanted to attempt. It came down to what supplies I had on hand. When I ordered my book from Lorelei herself, she included a bit of crepe silk cord in as a surprise. So I chose her "Garden Graces" bracelet design that uses the crepe silk.

With a different color of cord and much different stash than Lorelei, I made this bracelet my own with some colors that scream candy store to me. I actually picked my beads based on the colors that are in the flowers on the silk. Unfortunately, the section I used doesn't include most of them. Oh well. . .I think it works out beautifully either way.

I also included a charm of my own design made from a Tim Holtz tag, scrapbook paper, paint, and sealer instead of the ceramic charm Lorelei suggested in the tutorial. We work with what we've got.

I definitely enjoyed making this bracelet and encourage you to pick up a copy of the book. There are tons of beautiful and easy to understand designs.

In addition to coming up with the idea to have this Pity Party, Heather is offering up a giveaway each day on her blog (I think you have until the end of today to leave comments on her blog posts as well as spread the word for chances to win gift certificates to her shop. How awesome is that!?) Today she's asking for links to inspiring tutorials online, bead-related or not. I'm going to share this one.

BUTTON BRACELETS from Hope Studios

As much as I love and hoard buttons, I shouldn't have any problem coming up with supplies to make a buttload of these.

Now, to go find something else to distract myself with before I start chewing on my keyboard!

Crafter's Devotional: First Hop

You may recall me mentioning last month that I was joining up with some other artists for a Crafter's Devotional group based on the book by Barbara R. Call by the same name.

The purpose of the book is to help unlock your creative spirit and the purpose of the group is a sort of support group for all of us trying get out of our creative funks.

Today is our first. . .blog hop/check-in/thing on our progress with the book. The book has daily inspirations, activities, tips, tricks, etc. to get your creative juices flowing. While you don't have to work through the book in order, I've decided that was the best way for me to keep track. Let me admit that with our vacation and other busy activities, it's been hard for me to keep up DAILY. However, I have attempted to catch up when I've fallen behind on the days.

The book has definitely gotten my wheels turning about a variety of topics and has helped me explore some of the inner workings of my mind. And, I kinda like that. It's also pushing me to write in the suggested journal and I realize how much I miss putting pen to paper in that manner. (I used to be a devout diary/journal-writer.)

ANYWAY. . . onto the questions for the hop
**Questions for the blog hop:  What activity has inspired you the most?  Or if the book hasn’t grabbed you, why?

The book HAS grabbed me, so I'm going with the first question. Yet, I had to go back through my journaling to answer it. I think the activity that really inspired me the most was altering the front of my journal. There was a lot of introspection on this one for me. I know it's weird  that something so simple as decorating the cover really had my wheels turning. However, it wasn't about how I would decorate it. Instead my thoughts were tuned toward the actual act of altering something from it's original state.
My journal in its original state (actually this is the back, but the front looked the same before I altered it)

While I'm a self professed 'Mixed Media Artist' and make altered jewelry, I realize that my first thought isn't always how to personalize or change up something. Instead, it's often a forced process. As long as I can remember, I've admired people who weren't hesitant about painting a piece of furniture or slapping stickers on their laptops or performing other acts of altering something from its original state. I think I know where this stems from as well. Growing up on the lower side of middle class, we were encouraged to respect and care for our belongings as they needed to last as long as possible. In addition, there was a lot of renting of homes so all decorations had to be removable. Through all of this, I never really learned to throw caution to the wind and permanently change anything for fear of RUINING it.

The act of personalizing the front of that journal (even though it was just with some scrapbook paper and glue) really helped free me from that mindset. Well, let's not say I'm completely 'free' from it, but I don't feel as caged in by it.

Oh. . .and here's my journal cover. I want to change it up yet some more, but this was a liberating start for me.
My altered journal

A big thanks to Elisabeth at Beads for Busy Gals and Patty at My Life Under the Bus for starting up this little group to kick-start us out of our creative funks. I definitely think the Crafter's Devotional is exactly what I need right now and I don't think I would have discovered it without them. As well, without the group and this upcoming blog hop, the activities might have fallen by the wayside. Having a deadline like a blog post has definitely pushed me forward in getting through the book. So THANK YOU!! I'm definitely looking forward to next month.

Here's the list of the Crafter's Devotional group so you can hop and see how they're doing with the book.

Bead Fest Pity Party: Day 1

While many of our beady friends have trooped off to Bead Fest Philly, Heather Powers (of Humblebeads) suggested that those of us not lucky enough to attend have a Pity Party of our own. As such, she's got a list of bead shops with sales and three days of fun bead-realted activities for us to play along.

Today is Bust your Stash day. Heather has challenged us to use something that 'hasn't seen the light of day in a while' or something we purchased from a bead show. In honor of Heather's fabulous idea, I pulled out this awesome acorn pendant/charm I bought from her a while back.
Cute right!?

I also gathered up some other need-to-use pieces.
An enameled bead from GardanneBeads
A ceramic bead from Gaea
A knotted leather shank button from my stash

In addition, I selected some chain, wire, and seed beads and got to wrapping.

In no time this beauty came together.

Yeah, who needs to be at Bead Fest, when you can be at home playing with the awesomeness we have hoarded there?

As well, there's a new bracelet in the shop.
Sweetly Peach Bracelet
Tomorrow, Heather has challenged us to go on an Inspiration Adventure. Hmmmmm.

Oh, and if you're looking for more of today's pity party, head over to Heather's own post about it.

Bead Table Wednesday: Collection

So far this week, all my posts have been fairly short. I think I'll somewhat stick to that vein today since I want more time at the craft desk and not the computer desk. This works out as it it Bead Table Wednesday.
Pat and I went to the beach on Sunday and I collected a bunch of shells. I've learned to look for ones that already have holes in them so I don't have to fool with trying to drill them. Fortunately for me, most people don't pick up the ones with holes. (You know, because they're flawed. Personally, I think we all have our flaws and that's what makes each of us unique and beautiful. . .shells too.)
I'm a collector of found objects and my eyes are constantly scanning the ground for treasures. I'm also a beach-loving, sand-in-my-toes, salt-in-my-veins, sun-on-my-skin kind of girl. As such, I've got bags and bags and bags of shells stashed away in the craft room. While I could have pulled out any of those, I decided to work exclusively with the baggie of shells I found over the weekend.
As a collector, I've got piles of all kinds of objects. Above is a small bowl of jump rings in mixed metals. When I find that I've got an extra one or two still out from a project, I tend to just throw them in this bowl that's close at hand. It works out well when I just need one jump ring for something or when I'm trying to clean my desk and find stray jump rings under all the mess.

All these above items are piled on my craft desk at the moment. I think they're working well together, playing nicely if you will. I guess I'll see in the end!

Fly High Necklace - relisted
Now, back to those collected piles to see what emerges! What's on your craft desk today?

Giveaways from the Bead Soup Second Reveal

I've finally finished going through all the Bead Soup Blogs for the second reveal and am not sure if I'm relieved or nervous about being in the third reveal. These first two reveals have been phenomenal and I hope I don't disappoint. I know that seeing these first two has definitely inspired me and pushed me to think outside the box a little more. I guess we'll see how that works for me in a little less than two weeks! Eek!
Dragon Eye Earrings - new in shop

**Giveaway alert **
I did find a few giveaways in this second reveal, so I figured I'd share them with you like I did last time. Here goes:

I've whittled away most of the day on Bead Soup posts and am inspired to hop back into the midst of creating my own. I might even have a giveaway of my own. . .hmmmm. Tempting, tempting. I guess you'll have to make sure to hop by on August 25th and find out.

A Quickie - Monday's Menu

I'm still making it through the long list of amazing artists in the 2nd Reveal of this 6th Bead Soup Blog Party. As such, I want to keep this short and sweet so I can get back to hopping and working on my own pieces for the 3rd Reveal on August 25th.

As it's Monday, it's time for a Meal Plan. My freezer is OVER-FLOWING so I've got a few meals that are coming straight out of there. It's kinda nice knowing that I won't have to do much cooking over the weekend.

Breakfasts: Cereal/oatmeal, raspberry parfaits, peanut butter toast, yogurt w/granola, eggs w/bacon & toast, pancakes/waffles (from freezer)

Lunches: Turkey paninis, pita pizzas, turkey quesidillas, penne pasta with sundried tomato cream sauce, tuna noodles, soup w/grilled cheese, leftovers

Dinners:
Turkey chili w/rice
Pork tenderloin (freezer) w/mashed potatoes (freezer) & green beans
Spicy chicken tortilla soup (freezer)

Steampunk Circus Earrings, now on sale
I did play around in the shop earlier today and put another couple items on sale. I promise there will be more NEW soon. Stay tuned!

Post-Vacation Link-a-palooza

I recognize that I should be sharing some vacation photos and stories with you, but I'm not sure either are fit for the internet. Besides that, I haven't worked up the momentum yet to upload all the pictures. On the other hand, I have made it into the craft room in little spurts when I haven't been trying to get the house back in order. Oh sigh. Why does it seem like there's so much more work before and after a vacation than any other time??
Just a peek at what's on my craft desk at the moment

I really should be working on my Bead Soup piece(s), but I'm trying to get the creative juices flowing before I dive into that pool. Don't forget that the second reveal of the Bead Soup Blog Party is tomorrow. I suggest you hit up hostess Lori Anderson's Pretty Things blog to get the ball rolling. There will probably be plenty of posts up around midnight Eastern US time.

While I've got you here, let me go ahead with some links so this feels more like a real post.

As soon as I returned from vacation, I did put a few items ON SALE in the Etsy shop. In addition, I added these new earrings in there.
Gathering Flowers Earrings
I hope you found something cool in the links today and hope to be back in the next day or two with something more than links, but we'll see how busy the Bead Soup Blog Party keeps me before I make any promises!
